Teaching Methodology Guidelines

  1. Purpose

This SOP outlines the standardized methodology for teaching, assessment, and student development at CATS Group of Colleges. The goal is to ensure consistency, transparency, and measurable student progress across all programs.

  1. Scope

This SOP applies to:

  • All teaching faculty (full-time/part-time)
  • Lab instructors and practical trainers
  • Academic coordinators and evaluators
  • Students enrolled in Inter-Tech and Medical Technology programs
  1. Lecture Structure (40 Minutes)

Each lecture is divided as follows:

  • 5 minutes (Revision): Teacher revises key concepts from the previous lecture.
  • 5 minutes (Student Questioning & Evaluation): Teacher asks questions from randomly selected students. Performance is rated on a 10-point scale in the evaluation sheet.
  • 25 minutes (Main Lecture): Delivery of core content with examples, case studies, and practical applications.
  • 5 minutes (Discussion & Q/A): Open discussion, clarifications, and critical thinking questions.
  1. Student Evaluation System

  • Daily Basis: Each day, a group of students is randomly questioned. Within 6 teaching days, all students are covered at least once.
  • Weekly Basis: Teachers review student progress based on daily ratings.
  • Monthly Basis:
    • Monthly Test (theory + practical where applicable)
    • Student-wise performance reports shared with parents/guardians in PTM (Parent-Teacher Meeting)
  • Midterm & Pre-Board Exams: Conducted as per academic calendar.
  • Final Test Session: Comprehensive exam series before board/university exams.
  1. Practical & Skill-Based Training

  • Each teacher conducts 2 practical sessions per week in labs.
  • Assignments and tasks given regularly for reinforcement.
  • Practical logs maintained by students and countersigned by instructors.
  1. Student Development Activities

  • Guest Lectures: Industry experts and alumni invited to enhance exposure.
  • Industry Visits: Students visit factories, hospitals, and organizations related to their fields.
  • Co-Curricular Activities: Debates, quizzes, competitions, presentations.
  • Extra-Curricular Activities: Sports, welcome/farewell events, tours, cultural programs.
  • Counseling: Teachers provide academic and career counseling sessions throughout the semester.
  1. Teacher’s Responsibilities

  • Ensure lesson plans and lecture breakdowns are followed.
  • Maintain student evaluation sheets daily.
  • Submit weekly reports to Academic Coordinator.
  • Guide students in both academic learning and practical skills.
  • Encourage discipline, participation, and professional ethics.
  1. Monitoring & Reporting

  • Daily Monitoring: Coordinators check attendance, lecture coverage, and evaluation sheets.
  • Weekly Monitoring: Academic review meetings conducted by HOD/Principal.
  • Monthly Reporting: Consolidated student performance reports shared with parents and management.
  • End of Term: Comprehensive result analysis submitted to Academic Council.
  1. Quality Assurance Measures

  • Random class observations by Academic Head/Principal.
  • Evaluation sheets maintained and archived for audits.
  • Continuous improvement based on feedback from students, parents, and faculty.
  1. Review and Update

This SOP will be reviewed annually by the Academic Council of CATS College and updated as per curriculum changes, accreditation requirements, and industry needs.
